There are many choices available to the manufacturer for the control of LED's used in illumination.  Suffice to say, that whatever the application or industry, the enemy of an LED chip is heat and condensation.  Continued exposure in both of those environment impacts longevity and performance.  The manner in which heat is dissipated and the chip protected from condensation is what differentiates manufacturer's systems from one another
